  1. Just a silly little exercise to hopefully encourage group engagement. I may do this periodically.

Question: name a creative work (movie, song, painting, book, etc.) that in some way deals with mental health. It doesn't have to be something you necessarily like - it could be a movie you hate, a book you've never read, or a song that changed your life for the better, or etc. There are no wrong answers - you can choose something well known or obscure, your answer can be one word or a paragraph!

Hopefully everyone will have something to say!

  2. I'll throw out a few... the paintings of Van Gogh in general, the movie "The Aviator," the movie "I Am Sam," and short stories by Conrad Aiken.

I recently reviewed a very strong book that resulted from a fellowship supporting a long backpacking journey through the lands of Asia. it deals with abuse, feminism, female poverty. and the denial of Human Rights globally. Some events that might occur at the Beijing Summer Olympics of 2008 may be horridly incredible. The book is by Tingling Choong and is FireWife: A Story of Fire and Water. http://www.mixx.com/stories/238617/sex_slaves_and_sushi

    Thanks!

  4. Fight Club, the movie "The Cell", the song "Color Me Impressed" by the Replacements (a lot of their songs and lead singer Paul Westerburg's solo stuff is a depressing lol), song "Instatutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies, the book "Son of a Preacher Man" by Jay Bakker.

This is the first time noticing and using a mixx message board, this is a cool feature.

  5. @patty_inglish_MS Thanks for the link - I went and checked it out!

  6. @brad0022 Nice collection! I like the variety!

And yeah, I like the message boards! I'm hoping we'll put it'/the comments to good use!

  7. "The Wall" by Pink Floyd, both discs and the entire movie is a mental health trip.

  8. "Silent Hill" a video game. It's about a delusional man who fights creatures which turn out to be physical manifestations of his own guilt. At first glance it's not very psychological, but after some study it turns out to be completely involved with mental illness.

    Nice thread, btw ^_^

  9. @SallyD omg, I LOVE pink floyd!! that is such a good one!

  10. @calinazaret Ooo a video game! I'm not familiar with the game, but it sounds interesting! And I like just the idea of posting a video game!
